Blue Water fishing

Blue water starts where the shelf drops away and the bottom stops showing on the sounder. Out here the color turns from green to deep indigo and the fish are built for speed — sailfish, marlin, mahi-mahi and wahoo running the current edges. We troll spreads and work weed lines and floating debris, because that's where the bait holds and the predators follow.

Deep Sea Fishing

Deep sea fishing is the trip most people picture when they book a charter in Cancun. We run offshore, put out a spread of trolling baits, and cover water until something eats. Four hours gets you to the closer grounds, six is the sweet spot, and eight reaches the far banks. Rods, reels, bait and your fishing license are on the boat.

What's biting right now

Cancun fishes all year, but not for the same fish. Sailfish run from December through August with the best of it in January, February and March. Marlin and mahi-mahi are a May to July fish. Snapper and grouper are there every month. Tell us your dates and we’ll tell you what’s realistic, not what sounds good.

September and October, straight up. It’s hurricane season and the pelagic bite is slow. We don’t sell marlin trips in September. What we run is a half-day reef trip for snapper and grouper, wahoo on the troll on the way out, snorkeling, and your catch cooked at a restaurant on the water. Lower price, no pretending.

Catch & Release: Every billfish goes back in the water

Sailfish and marlin are released at the boat. Photographed, revived and let go. Nobody hangs one on a scale on our deck.

Mahi-mahi, tuna, wahoo, snapper and grouper are yours. Keep what your family will eat, we clean and fillet it at the dock, and the restaurant next to the marina will cook it that afternoon.

Do I need a fishing license?

You do, and it’s included. We add every angler to the boat’s license before the trip. Nothing for you to file.

What happens if the weather cancels the trip?

If the port closes or the captain calls it unsafe, you reschedule or get a full refund of your deposit. We don’t run trips we wouldn’t take our own family on.

Someone in our group gets seasick. Is that a problem?

It’s the most common thing people worry about. Take the medication the night before and again in the morning, not when you already feel it. Tell us when you book and we’ll plan a route that stays in calmer water.

Can we bring kids?

Yes, and we do it often. For younger children a shorter reef trip inside the bay works better than a full day offshore. Kids’ life jackets are on board.

What should I bring?

Sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and a light jacket in winter. Everything else is on the boat. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet.

How do I hold a date?

A 30% deposit by card holds the boat, and the balance is paid on the day. Booking here means you’re dealing with the crew directly, not a call center.
